Wow. First day of class today! I had Transformation of Britain (19th century) and Images of Britain through the Ages. I'm excited for both since it will be amazing to learn about a location while I am living in it.
I got done with class at noon and went with some people to a nearby sandwich shop. We headed back over to Trafalgar Square with our sandwiches and sat on the stairs leading up to the National Gallery to eat. Amazing. I was giddy inside I was so excited to be there.
After this, I got some textbooks I needed and headed toward the National Gallery with a friend. We ended up standing for a bit with some Georgians joining together to unite concerning the situation with Russia. Really cool meeting people close to this situation. After a bit, we headed to the Gallery where we spent a good chunk of time in two rooms with some DaVinci and Rafael and other artists. I couldn't believe it. There was this one DaVinci sketch that was just amazing. The emotion and soul of a painting can sometimes be more visible in the chalk sketch. Very cool.
After two rooms of intense analysis, we were kind of looking around the entire rooms and just realizing how amazing it was to be in these rooms filled with so much great art. And how it is free and right next to our classroom building. So I am quite sure I will end up back at the National Gallery more in the coming weeks...
I got some school supplies after this and then ended up at Leicester Square with some other ND kids for the premiere of RockNRollas randomly. We waited for a really long time and ended up seeing Guy Ritchie, Gerard Butler, and Sting's wife. One of my flatmates actually got a picture with Gerard Butler (300, Phantom of the Opera)!! Very cool.
Anyway, I should get some sleep for tomorrow now. And plan another great day. (Or not plan... since that seemed to work quite well today!)
Thanks so much you guys for your interest in my time in London, and please continue to keep me updated about your lives as well.
Oh, and I've got some pictures up so far! Check them out here:
